Example 13: Lebu•Copi (Branding/Packaging)

Lebu•Copi had their tea blend business packaged/branded with modernized 20th-century Art Deco designs by designers Nina Rosso and Craft&Co. When looking into actual Art Deco packaging and designing, a lot was sleek and simple like Lebu•Copi but also dark and usually with blues, grays, and then brightened with just metallics. This does fit the Art Deco style of contrasting colors but in today's packaging, things have brightened up more, created deeper contrast, and changed for a more modern, geometric, and simple 21st-century appeal. Lebu•Copi's design incorporated what they call, New York Art Deco, which shows a lot of simple and flat designs of geometric curves, straight lines, and sunburst-like shapes and patterns in their logo. This is different than my previous examples as I have talked a lot about the different 1920s-30s art and design produced during the actual time period rather than how it's been an inspiration in today's designing. Also, packaging/ branding is another kind of graphic design that uses past and current design styles to advertise and appeal to consumers. I think it's important to look at the past to help figure out the future, especially with creating new, modern, and changing design styles like packaging/branding that uses classic Art Deco detailing. This type of design is refreshing and simple, yet pays homage to the past and how styles like Art Deco can be played with and reinvented even a century later.
