The popular silent film, Metropolis, was one of many silent movies produced in the 1920s. Metropolis was a very futuristic type of film that was popular with the growing technology of screenplay. Seeing into the future and creating things of that nature is still relevant today. The design itself is simple in color which is very diverse from typical colorful Art Deco designs. Still, the futurism factor and the use of edgy typography bring out more of the Art Deco Style portrayed even today. There are also many geometric shapes and sunbursts in this poster that were also a large Art Deco symbol/style in creating futuristic environments. Adding to this, the robot illustration added to the futuristic theme as well. This is diverse from past examples because of how this design came from a time of peak technology at the start of movies and again there is not much color going on within the work but still creates a flat yet exciting design making the viewer more interested in what the film could be about. This is important to me because, with designs like this, I feel I could step back in time and can also put myself into the perspective of the time period when silent movies were so popular. This design in particular makes me want to know more about the film due to its eerie yet futuristic design.
